Parks, people and pixels: evaluating landscape effects of an East African national park on its surroundings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Landscapes surrounding protected areas, while still containing considerable biodiversity, have rapidly growing human populations and associated agricultural development in most of the developing world that tend to isolate them, potentially reducing their

Analysis of the effect of landscape component classification on landscape diversity index

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Abstract The landscape diversity index (LDI) is an important level in biodiversity conservation, and its scale dependence has an important role in regional landscape planning and biological conservation. The aim of this study is to analyze in depth the effects of spatial scale changes in the classification of different landscape ...

Constraints on the spectral index for the inflation models in the string landscape [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2007
We conjecture that the inflation models with trans-Planckian excursions in the field space should be in the swampland. We check this conjecture in a few examples and investigate the constraints on the spectral index for the slow-roll inflation model in string landscape where the variation of inflaton during the period of inflation is less than the ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Landscape pattern evolution of the north of Hangzhou bay coastal area in Shanghai

open access: yes上海师范大学学报. 自然科学版, 2012
Since the 1980s in Shanghai, fast economic development, rapid urbanization, population explosion, all of these phenomena are driving radical changes in landscape pattern of coastal area. The landscape pattern evolution at the coastal regions of the north of ...

A Fifty-Year Sustainability Assessment of Italian Agro-Forest Districts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
DistrictAs cropland management and land use shifted towards more intensive practices, global land degradation increased drastically. Understanding relationships between ecological and socioeconomic drivers of soil and landscape degradation within these

Indexing the vulnerability of biotopes to landscape changes

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2019
Abstract Biodiversity loss is one of the great challenges of our times, and it is primarily driven by losses of natural and semi-natural areas. To avoid further biodiversity losses, landscape planning and ecosystem management could benefit from a condensed measure that tracks regional and cumulative ecological degradation from past and ongoing ...

Impacts of urbanization and landscape pattern on habitat quality using OLS and GWR models in Hangzhou, China

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2020
China has experienced the most serious habitat degradation, especially in fast-growing metropolis cities. Although increasing attentions have been brought to this issue, we still lack the understanding of the quantitative impacts of urbanization and ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
