Integrated Lane-Changing Models

2009
This chapter summarizes a series of advances in lane changing models aiming at providing a more complete and integrated representation of drivers’ behaviors. These advances include the integration of mandatory and discretionary lane changes in a single framework, the inclusion of an explicit target lane choice in the decision process and the ...

Lane-changing behavior on highways

Physical Review E, 2002
We study the lane-changing behavior in multilane highway modeling by a cellular automaton. We analyze the effects of speed limit and stochastic noise. A new parameter is introduced to allow vehicles not to change lanes even when the environmental criteria are met.

Automated lane change controller design

IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2003
The primary focus of study in this paper is the background control theory for automated lane change maneuvers. We provide an analytic approach for the systematic development of controllers that will cause an autonomous vehicle to accomplish a smooth lane change suitable for use in an Automated Highway System.

AN INVESTIGATION OF LANE-CHANGING RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND POSSIBLE LANE-CHANGING INDICATORS ON HIGHWAY

2022
Unsafe lane changes have been identified as a common factor in motor vehicle accidents. It would be helpful, particularly for automated vehicles, to know if there are behaviors of vehicles, beyond a directional signal, or characteristics of the traffic environment that correlated with a higher probability of an unsafe lane change (lane changes without ...

Relaxation Phenomenon after Lane Changing

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2007
A calibration and an analysis of a recently proposed relaxation model that requires only one additional parameter ∊ are presented. The relaxation phenomenon takes place whenever a lane change occurs at a short spacing that falls outside the fundamental diagram.

Lane-changing in traffic streams

Transportation Research Part B: Methodological, 2006
It is postulated that lane-changing vehicles create voids in traffic streams, and that these voids reduce flow. This mechanism is described with a model that tracks lane changers precisely, as particles endowed with realistic mechanical properties.

Modeling Duration of Lane Changes

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2007
Lane changes significantly affect the characteristics of traffic flow. Lane-changing models are therefore important in microscopic traffic simulation. Existing lane-changing models emphasize the decision-making aspects of the task but generally neglect the detailed modeling of the lane-changing action itself and model it only as an instantaneous event.

Modeling Integrated Lane-Changing Behavior

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2003
The lane-changing model is an important component within microscopic traffic simulation tools. Following the emergence of these tools in recent years, interest in the development of more reliable lane-changing models has increased. Lane-changing behavior is also important in several other applications such as capacity analysis and safety studies. Lane-

Instantaneous Lane-Changing Type Aware Lane Change Prediction Based on LSTM in Mixed Traffic Scenario

Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers, 2022
With the rapid development and application of autonomous technology in vehicles, we are going to see more autonomous vehicles on the roads in a foreseeable future. While autonomous vehicles may have the advantage of reducing traffic accidents caused by human drivers’ neglect and/or fatigue, one of the challenges is how to develop autonomous driving ...
