Response preparation in a lane change task

Ergonomics, 2013
Anticipation of future events is crucial for driving performance and safety. The aim of this study is to assess the relevance of theoretical frameworks of response preparation (response priming, movement integration theory) for driving. In a customised lane change task, valid and invalid primes were used to indicate the direction of the forthcoming ...

Lane Change Guidance for Freeway Incident Management

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2009
Abstract This study proposes a design and evaluation method of lane change guidance system for freeway incident management. Microscopic simulator VISSIM is used to facilitate the design and evaluation. Sixteen incident scenarios are used with four varying factors: demanding flow, incident duration, incident location and driver compliance rate.

How does a lower predictability of lane changes affect performance in the Lane Change Task?

Applied Ergonomics, 2014
The Lane Change Task (LCT) is an established method to assess driver distraction caused by secondary tasks. In the LCT ISO standard, "course following and maneuvering" and "event detection" are mentioned as central task properties. Especially event detection seems to be a reasonable feature, as research suggests that distraction has profound effects on

Lane Change Warning Design Guidelines

Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, 2004
Five design guidelines were created to aid in the development of lane change crash avoidance systems (LCAS), using on-road data. In preparation for guideline development, field data were used to characterize a sample of lane changes and baseline (straight-ahead) driving events. Analysis of lane change frequency and duration, as well as turn signal use

Modelling heavy vehicle lane changing

2017
Lane changing manoeuvres have a substantial impact on microscopic and macroscopic traffic flow characteristics due to the interference effect they have on surrounding vehicles. The interference effects of heavy vehicles’ lane changing manoeuvres on surrounding traffic are likely to be greater than when passenger cars execute lane changing manoeuvre ...

Does Eyeglance Affect Lane Change Safety: Analysis of Eyeglance Pattern Prior to Lane Change

2022
The driver’s eyeglance patterns prior to lane change can have a major impact on crash risk. This study focuses on the area-of-interest (AOI) in eyeglances related to lane changes, including rearview mirror, left/right window, left/right mirror, windshield, and over-the-shoulder (OTS) checks of corresponding lane change direction.
