Tailoring Biowaste‐Derived Activated Hydrochar With Multifunctionality Toward Antibiotic Adsorption, CO2 Capture, and Energy Storage

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 91, Issue 8, August 2026.
Date seed biowaste was hydrothermally carbonized to produce hydrochar (HC), which was further converted into activated hydrochar (AHC) via phosphoric acid activation. This sustainable, multifunctional carbon material was evaluated for three applications: antibiotic (levofloxacin) adsorption, CO2 capture, and energy storage as a phosphoric‐acid‐based ...

Adsorption of Tetracycline and Congo Red by a Nitrogen and Sulfur Co‐Doped Crab Shell‐Derived Biochar (BC‐N/S): Mechanism and Estimated Cost

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 30, 10 August 2026.
A nitrogen–sulfur co‐doped crab shell‐derived biochar (BC‐N/S) was prepared through a facile one‐pot synthesis. BC‐N/S showed improved surface area (13.462 m2g−1) and enhanced pore width. The BC‐N/S adsorbent displayed 100% preferential adsorption efficiency for Congo red compared to tetracycline (96.47%) in binary solution.
