Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Watermarking Language Models through Language Models

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence
Watermarking the outputs of large language models (LLMs) is critical for provenance tracing, content regulation, and model accountability. Existing approaches often rely on access to model internals or are constrained by static rules and token-level perturbations.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

A complex network approach to analyse pre-trained language models for ancient Chinese

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
Ancient Chinese is a splendid treasure within Chinese culture. To facilitate its compilation, pre-trained language models for ancient Chinese are developed. After that, researchers are actively exploring the factors contributing to their success. However,

ReaderBench: Multilevel analysis of Russian text characteristics

open access: yesRussian Journal of Linguistics, 2022
This paper introduces an adaptation of the open source ReaderBench framework that now supports Russian multilevel analyses of text characteristics, while integrating both textual complexity indices and state-of-the-art language models, namely ...

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

A Survey of Body Part Construction Metaphors in the Neo-Assyrian Letter Corpus

open access: yesJournal of Open Humanities Data
The dataset consists of approximately 2,400 examples of metaphors in Akkadian of what we term Body Part Constructions (BPCs) within the letter sub-corpus of the State Archives of Assyria online (SAAo).

Language Modeling by Language Models

open access: yes
Can we leverage LLMs to model the process of discovering novel language model (LM) architectures? Inspired by real research, we propose a multi-agent LLM approach that simulates the conventional stages of research, from ideation and literature search (proposal stage) to design implementation (code generation), generative pre-training, and downstream ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Scene Text Recognition Based on Improved CRNN

open access: yesInformation, 2023
Text recognition is an important research topic in computer vision. Scene text, which refers to the text in real scenes, sometimes needs to meet the requirement of attracting attention, and there is the situation such as deformation.
