Synthesis of lanthanide and lanthanide-silicate aerogels
Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1994In this paper we report on the preparation of mixed lanthanide-silicate and pure lanthanide aerogels from the chlorides of erbium, praseodymium, and neodymium. A two-step sol-gel method is described for preparing the mixed aerogels, using a sub-stoichiometric amount of water in the first step to prepare a partially condensed silica-lanthanide precursor.

Lanthanide corroles: a new class of macrocyclic lanthanide complexes
Chemical Communications, 2013The first examples of lanthanide corroles are prepared by two synthetic routes. (Mes2(p-OMePh)corrole)La·4.5DME (1·4.5DME) and (Mes2(p-OMePh)corrole)Tb·4DME (2·4DME) are prepared from the free base corrole and Ln((NSiMe3)2)3, while (Mes2(p-OMePh)corrole)Gd·TACNMe3 (3·TACNMe3) is prepared by metathesis of the recently reported Li3 corrole and GdCl3.

Lanthanides, formerly known as rare earths, are critical materials. Their discovery, extraction and refining are described. The important role China has in refining is outlined, as is its dominant role in production of components such as extremely powerful permanent magnets based on neodymium–iron–boron alloys.
