Lap Splices Anchored by Headed Bars

ACI Structural Journal, 2006
This research aimed to experimentally study the anchorage behavior of headed reinforcement in lap splices. Observations of cracking behavior, strain measurements of reinforcement, and strength are reported. The behavior of unconfined laps is compared to confined laps, and the behavior of nonheaded and headed bar laps are also compared. Bar stresses are

Lap Splicing of Deformed Reinforcing Bars

ACI Journal Proceedings, 1976
Tests are described which were carried out to establish an efficient experimental technique for evaluating critical lap length. The results indicate that it is possible to determine the critical lap length, which is just sufficient to develop yield stress in reinforcement, from a very few splice test results and a knowledge of the actual yield strength

Fundamental Analysis of RC lap Splices

SP-180: Bond and Development of Reinforcement - A Tribute to Dr. Peter Gergely, 1998
An analytical model is presented to evaluate the local bond-slip relationship in RC lap splices considering the influence of splitting cracks, friction between the concrete and rib face, microscopic fracture of concrete in front of rib face, flexural deformation of the cover concrete and stirrups.

The influence of percentage of bars lapped on performance of splices

Materials and Structures, 2014
Most design codes encourage the staggering of lapped splices in a section, such that a portion of the bars in the cross section remains continuous throughout the lap zone. A penalty on lap length may be imposed if all bars are lapped at one section. In the literature, however, almost all tested specimens have had all reinforcement lapped at the same ...

Comparison of code provisions on lap splices

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2007
The code provisions on lap splices are critically assessed in the light of 203 beams without transverse reinforcement and 278 beams with transverse reinforcement. For comparison, the provisions given in the ACI 318, Eurocode 2, and TS 500 Codes are considered.

Earthquake Resistant Tensile Lap Splices

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1983
A review of current code requirements on lap splices and their limitations in seismic design is presented. A simple analytical model of an embedded bar is examined and correlated with available experimental data. The force transfer mechanisms of lap splices and the effects of properly placed transverse reinforcement to avoid brittle failure are studied.

Lap Splices in Reinforced Concrete under Impact

Journal of the Structural Division, 1981
The performance of lap splices subjected to impact loading was studied and compared with that of splices under static loading. Nineteen specimens were tested under impact loading, with failure produced in either one impact, in the three to five impacts of incrementally increasing magnitude, or under either unidirectional or reversed cycling of the ...

Behavior of Multiple Lap Splices in Wide Sections

ACI Journal Proceedings, 1979
In most reinforced concrete catilever retaining walls, construction procedures require some type of splicing of the reinforcing steel. Economics often dictate the use of a lap splice. Since a retaining wall has no redundancy, understanding of splice behavior becomes critical to the design of the structure.

Experimental study of lap splice bolted connection

SPIE Proceedings, 2017
The bolted connection is prone to slip under external load in the lattice transmission tower, which will affect the internal forces and deformation of tower. In order to better simulate the effect of bolt connection slippage on transmission tower, the load deformation relationship should be established.

Behavior of Lap-Spliced Plain Steel Bars

ACI Structural Journal, 2012
Fifteen lap splice specimens reinforced with plain steel bars were tested under four-point loading to investigate bond resistance as a function of development length and bar diameter. Three of these specimens were instrumented with both steel and concrete strain gages to examine bond loss within the lap splice length.
