Characterization of Droplet Formation in Ultrasonic Spray Coating: Influence of Ink Formulation Using Phase Doppler Anemometry and Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study explores how machine learning models, trained on small experimental datasets obtained via Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA), can accurately predict droplet size (D32) in ultrasonic spray coating (USSC). By capturing the influence of ink complexity (solvent, polymer, nanoparticles), power, and flow rate, the model enables precise droplet control

Material Selection and Geometric Design for Few‐filament Shape Memory Polymer Yarns for Force Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A custom shape memory polymer material selection process relates quantitative application criteria (e.g., compression garment yarns) to material characterization information. The selected materials are manufactured into yarn geometries, which expand the design space by creating structural stress‐strain profiles beyond the nominal material stress‐strain

Carboranyl‐Curcuminoids for the Neutron Capture‐Based Treatment of Amyloid Aggregates in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 10B‐enriched monocarbonyl analog of curcumin (BMAC) 10B‐9 enables site‐specific Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) on amyloid‐β (Aβ) fibrils. Neutron irradiation induces histidine oxidation and fibril destabilization, as revealed by 1H‐NMR and FESEM analyses.

Stress History Establishes a Transient Tolerant State That Shapes Antibiotic Survival Upon Resuscitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐throughput single‐cell analysis of resuscitating bacteria reveals a starvation‐history‐dependent transiently tolerant subpopulation that survives β$\beta$‐lactam exposure by temporarily reducing growth. Distinct from classical persisters, these actively growing yet dynamically modulated cells dominate survival across clinically relevant antibiotic

The impact of fractional derivative on thermomechanical interactions in two-dimensional skin tissues throughout hyperthermia treatment

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
This work aims to study the influence of fractional derivatives and thermal relaxation time on two-dimensional biological tissues using an eigenvalue-based approach. Understanding the heat transfer mechanism and its thermomechanical interactions with the

Graphene as intermediate phase in fullerene and carbon nanotube growth: A Young–Laplace surface-tension model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Growth mechanism of carbon nanotubes using arc-discharge are not fully understood up to now. Here, I show that the formation of carbon nanotubes and fullerene in a pure carbon arc in helium atmosphere may involve graphene bubbles.
