Characterization of Modal Coupling of Bragg Gratings in Large-Mode-Area Fibers
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2011A new measurement technique for characterizing the magnitude of power coupling from the fundamental mode to higher order core- and cladding-bounded modes occurring in a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) inscribed in a large-mode-area (LMA) fiber is demonstrated and studied.

Photonic crystal fiber couplers based on large mode area fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2011The comparison of two types of photonic crystal fiber coupler (PCFC) based on LMA8 and LMA10 fibers are presented in this paper. The couplers preparation process based on biconical fiber technique without air-holes collapsing. The same parameters of elongation process have given slightly different results.

Novel large-mode area fibers for high power fiber lasers
Advanced Photonics 2016 (IPR, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2016We review all-solid trench-assisted fiber designs for mode-area scaling in flexible fibers. Our proposed fiber designs offer great potential for power scaling of monolithic single-mode fiber laser systems and for high-brightness laser beam ...

Design and Applications of Large Mode Area Optical Fibers
Frontiers in Optics 2008/Laser Science XXIV/Plasmonics and Metamaterials/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2008Large-mode-area fibers are an essential element for peak power scaling in fiber lasers. We will focus on recent development of leakage channel fibers and demonstration of single-mode operation in cores up to 170µm.

On the Raman threshold of passive large mode area fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2011The output power of fiber optic laser systems has been exponentially increasing in the last years. However, non-linear effects, and in particular stimulated Raman scattering (SRS), are threatening to seriously limit the development pace in the near future.

Measuring bend losses in large-mode-area fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2015We investigate the measurement of bend losses in few-mode large-mode-area (LMA) fibers. The influence of the light source spectral characteristics, modal power content and cladding light on the measurement accuracy and precision is studied experimentally. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to understand the distribution of the variations. This study

Intuitive modeling of bend distortion in large-mode-area fibers
Optics Letters, 2007Bend distortion is emerging as an important consideration in the design of amplifier fibers with a large mode area, in addition to bend loss and mode-coupling effects. Simple, intuitive estimates of distortion sensitivity are presented for two interesting classes of fibers, in agreement with full numerical simulations.

Large Mode Area Guidance in a Simple Fiber Structure
CLEO: 2015, 2015We demonstrate higher-order-mode (A eff ∼1800μm2) propagation in a 100-μm-OD pure-silica fiber with a low-index polymer jacket commonly used for fiber-laser pump-guidance. This simple structure obviates the need for complex designs deemed necessary for realizing large-mode-area fibers.

The design of large-mode-area single-mode fiber
SPIE Proceedings, 2008Based on the frustrated total internal reflection theory, a leaky large-mode-area double clad fiber is designed. The propagation constants and leakage loss of the fundamental mode LP 01 and sub-low order mode LP 11 is investigated by using of the matrix method. Results show that the designed fiber can operate with single-mode.
