Reduced micro-deformation attenuation in large-mode area photonic crystal fibers for visible applications

open access: yes, 2003
We consider large-mode area photonic crystal fibers for visible applications where micro-deformation induced attenuation becomes a potential problem when the effective area A_eff is sufficiently large compared to lambda^2.

Large mode area fibers with asymmetric bend compensation

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
Fibers with asymmetrical bend compensation offer to completely remove the tradeoff between mode area and single-modedness, with potentially huge impact on high-power amplification. These fibers would be difficult to fabricate, but are the only fundamental-mode strategy that can remove the bend-distortion limitations on mode-area scaling.

133-W pulsed fiber amplifier with large-mode-area fiber [PDF]

open access: yesOptical Engineering, 2006
A master-oscillator fiber power amplifier (MOPA) system with a 4-m-long Yb3+-doped homemade large mode area (LMA) double-clad fiber is reported. The system emits up to 133.8 W of amplified radiation at a wavelength of 1064 nm and a repetition rate of 100 kHz, limited only by the available pump power. Peak power of 300 kW at 20 kHz with a pulse duration

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Millimeter-long Fiber Fabry-Perot cavities

open access: yes, 2016
We demonstrate fiber Fabry-Perot (FFP) cavities with concave mirrors that can be operated at cavity lengths as large as 1.5mm without significant deterioration of the finesse.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Low-DMGD, Large-Effective-Area and Low-Bending-Loss 12-LP-Mode Fiber for Mode-Division-Multiplexing

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
We report the design of 12-LP-mode (21-spatial-mode) fiber with a low differential mode group delay (DMGD), a large effective area, and a low bending loss that is adapted to a mode-division-multiplexing system over the C+L band.

Mitigating mode instabilities by controllable mode beating excitation with a photonic lantern

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
In this study, a method of stabilizing the output beam of a large-mode-area fiber amplifier operating above the mode instability threshold is demonstrated. A mode control system based on the photonic lantern is used to excite dynamic mode beatings as the

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...
