Large Scale Simulations

Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry, 2010
In this chapter we will focus on molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with large numbers of atoms ( N > 1000). Typically, ab initio or F irst P rinciples M olecular D ynamics (FPMD) calculations are performed with smaller clusters of say 100 or fewer atoms. This choice is largely due to limitations in computing resources.

Large scale simulations

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1992
We discuss large scale numerical simulations as a tool for obtaining qualitative understanding of the processes directly and indirectly responsible for coronal heating. The actual heating process in the low beta coronal plasma is most likely driven by transfer of magnetic energy from the subsurface high beta region, where magnetic energy is created as ...

Economical large scale simulation

2001 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. e-Systems and e-Man for Cybernetics in Cyberspace (Cat.No.01CH37236), 2002
A long-standing reservoir simulation problem in petroleum engineering is history matching, where a reservoir simulator is "calibrated" in some way to model the reservoir under study. A correctly calibrated simulator can be used for reservoir characterization and provides a cost-effective way of obtaining essential information about the reservoir.

Simulating Large-Scale 5G Networks

2021 IEEE 4th 5G World Forum (5GWF), 2021
With the large scale deployment of 5G, more and more sophisticated applications will also be set out. In order to assess network performance, the networking behaviour of those applications should be evaluated beforehand, opening the need for 5G simulation.

Large-Scale Blast Simulations

1996
This paper describes the application of FEFL096, a three-dimensional, adaptive, finite element, edge-based, ALE shock capturing methodology on unstructured tetrahedral grids, to large-scale simulations of blast wave interaction with structures. The first simulation applied the CFD methodology to the numerical simulation of blast wave diffraction within

Large scale simulations of the hippocampus

IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 1988
Research aimed at developing a network model of the hippocampus based on electrophysiological and anatomical data is described. Simulations are used to examine the relationships between experiments on single cells and pairs of cells and experiments on populations of thousands of cells.

Large scale molecular simulations of nanotoxicity

WIREs Systems Biology and Medicine, 2014
The widespread use of nanomaterials in biomedical applications has been accompanied by an increasing interest in understanding their interactions with tissues, cells, and biomolecules, and in particular, on how they might affect the integrity of cell membranes and proteins. In this mini‐review, we present a summary of some of the recent studies on this

Large–scale simulations of concentrated emulsion flows

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2003
Applications of the newly developed hybrid of the boundary integral and economical multipole techniques to large-scale dynamical simulations of concentrated emulsion flows of deformable drops are considered. For N = O(10(2)-10(3)) drops in a periodic cell with O(10(3)) boundary elements per drop, the method has two to three orders of magnitude gain ...

Large Scale Simulations

2005
Computer simulation has the history of 50 years. Its contribution to Science is indeed enormous and fruitful. Above all, significant is the fact that physical processes of nonlinear phenomena now become rather easily elucidated. Increase of simulation results that demonstrate nonlinear processes of observed phenomena in terms of fundamental laws has ...
