HAIR MOUNTING TECHNIQUE: HELPFUL IN CONSERVATION OF CARNIVORES

open access: yesFUUAST Journal of Biology, 2011
Mammalian hair is the best source to solve the biological problems like species identification and diet analysis of endangered large carnivores because it is difficult to examine the intestinal contents of the large carnivores.

From patterns to predictions: a framework for the spatial epidemiology of wildlife diseases

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Wildlife diseases pose a significant threat to biodiversity conservation, public health, and livestock. Spatial epidemiology provides a robust framework to understand disease dynamics and guide policy and management. However, the rapid proliferation of spatial methods has largely occurred in isolation across disciplines, leaving the field without a ...

Sabretoothed carnivores and the killing of large prey.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Sabre-like canines clearly have the potential to inflict grievous wounds leading to massive blood loss and rapid death. Hypotheses concerning sabretooth killing modes include attack to soft parts such as the belly or throat, where biting deep is ...

Wolves and humans both shape patterns of deer browsing in a temperate forest ecosystem of Central Europe

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Predator–prey interactions can trigger behavioural responses in ungulates, influencing their space‐use and foraging behaviour and, in turn, indirectly affecting browsing pressure. Changes in browsing pressure can affect plant recruitment and species composition, shaping forest regeneration through predator‐mediated trophic cascades.

Pancreatic α‐cell dysfunction associated with equine insulin dysregulation

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Insulin dysregulation (ID) in horses is characterised by insulin resistance and exaggerated insulin responses, yet the underlying endocrine mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In humans, α‐cell dysfunction characterised by exaggerated glucagon secretion contributes to metabolic disease; however, the role of pancreatic α‐cell ...

Between politics and management: governing large carnivores in Fennoscandia

open access: yes, 2018
Environmental collaborative governance or decentralization are increasingly promoted as useful means to manage conflicting goals and to balance different interests with regard to large carnivores.

Large carnivores in Croatia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Velike zvijeri ne označavaju zasebnu sistematsku kategoriju, već obuhvaćaju pripadnike reda zvijeri koji se ističu svojom veličinom. U Hrvatskoj nalazimo tri vrste velikih zvijeri : sivi vuk (Canis lupus), smeđi medvjed (Ursus arctos) i euroazijski ris ...

Constructing Synthesizable Evaluations of Technical Interventions to Reduce Wildlife‐Caused Agricultural Losses 构建易用于证据整合的野生动物致农业损失缓解措施成效评估

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
A framework with eight key components to assess the effectiveness of technical measures to reduce wildlife‐caused agriculture loss. ABSTRACT Technical interventions to reduce wildlife‐caused agricultural losses (e.g., crops, livestock, and fisheries) are essential for human‐wildlife coexistence.
