Continuum modeling of large networks

International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields, 2007
AbstractThis paper is concerned with the modeling and simulation of extremely large networks. We derive a time‐dependent diffusion–convection partial differential equation, the solution of which captures the global characteristics of a stochastic network model.

Continuum modeling and control of large nonuniform networks

2011 49th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2011
Recent research has shown that some Markov chains modeling networks converge to continuum limits, which are solutions of partial differential equations (PDEs), as the number of the network nodes approaches infinity. Hence we can approximate such large networks by PDEs. However, the previous results were limited to uniform immobile networks with a fixed

Egalitarian Solutions of Large Games: I. A Continuum of Players

Mathematics of Operations Research, 1995
This is the first of two papers devoted to the study of egalitarian solutions for nontransferable utility (NTU) games with a large number of players. This paper is concerned with the construction of egalitarian solutions for the limit situation with a continuum of players.

On the continuum approximation of large reaction mixtures

AIChE Journal, 2009
AbstractIn analyzing a reaction mixture of very many components, treating the mixture as a continuum can produce results of generality. In many practical situations (e.g., hydrodesulfurization), it is highly desirable to predict the overall behavior of the mixture at large times (high conversions) with minimum information on the mixture property.
