Understanding evolutionary and ecological dynamics using a continuum limit

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
Continuum limits in the form of stochastic differential equations are typically used in theoretical population genetics to account for genetic drift or more generally, inherent randomness of the model. In evolutionary game theory and theoretical ecology,

Reflection Principles, Generic Large Cardinals, and the Continuum Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Strong reflection principles with the reflection cardinal $\leq\aleph_1$ or $<2^{\aleph_0}$ imply that the size of the continuum is either $\aleph_1$ or $\aleph_2$ or very large. Thus, the stipulation, that a strong reflection principle should hold, seems to support the trichotomy on the possible size of the continuum.

Development of a cable-driven continuum robot having a large workspace (Mechanism design of a one-segment continuum robot focused on orientation workspace)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2022
In order to develop a cable-driven continuum robot having a large workspace without using a large number of segments, which leads to construction complexity and requires the use of many actuators, this paper presents a mechanism design for increasing the

Large N phase transition in continuum QCD2 [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1993
We compute the exact partition function for pure continuous Yang-Mills theory on the two-sphere in the large $N$ limit, and find that it exhibits a large $N$ third order phase transition with respect to the area $A$ of the sphere. The weak coupling (small A) partition function is trivial, while in the strong coupling phase (large A) it is expressed in ...

A priori error analysis of two force-based atomistic/continuum models of a periodic chain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The force-based quasicontinuum (QCF) approximation is a non-conservative atomistic/continuum hybrid model for the simulation of defects in crystals. We present an a priori error analysis of the QCF method, applied to a one-dimensional periodic chain ...

Large continuum, oracles

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2010
Abstract Our main theorem is about iterated forcing for making the continuum larger than ℵ2. We present a generalization of [2] which deal with oracles for random, (also for other cases and generalities), by replacing ℵ1,ℵ2 by λ, λ + (starting with λ = λ <λ > ...
