When language breaks into pieces: A conflict between communication through isolated signals and language [PDF]
Here we study a communication model where signals associate to stimuli. The model assumes that signals follow Zipf’s law and the exponent of the law depends on a balance between maximizing the information transfer and saving cost the cost of ...

Demographic growth and the distribution of language sizes
It is argued that the present log-normal distribution of language sizes is, to a large extent, a consequence of demographic dynamics within the population of speakers of each language.

ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, high‐flow, vascular anomalies that can occur either sporadically or as part of a genetic syndrome. AVMs can progress with serious morbidity and even mortality if left unchecked. Sirolimus is an mTOR inhibitor that is effective in low‐flow vascular malformations; however, its role in AVMs is unclear.

In-plant logistics systems modeling with SysML [PDF]
Up till now Systems Modeling Language (SysML) has mostly been used to model physical systems of interest. This paper shows how SysML can also be used to represent an abstract model.

Developmental Scaffolding with Large Language Models
Exploratoration and self-observation are key mechanisms of infant sensorimotor development. These processes are further guided by parental scaffolding accelerating skill and knowledge acquisition. In developmental robotics, this approach has been adopted often by having a human acting as the source of scaffolding.

Slim Embedding Layers for Recurrent Neural Language Models
Recurrent neural language models are the state-of-the-art models for language modeling. When the vocabulary size is large, the space taken to store the model parameters becomes the bottleneck for the use of recurrent neural language models. In this paper,

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...
