Limiting stable currents in bounded electron and ion streams [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
The classical static analysis of the infinite planar diode has been extended to include the effects of finite transverse beam size. Simple expressions have been found for the increase in maximum stable current density over that of an infinite stream for ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Experimental and simulation study of 1D silicon nanowire transistors using heavily doped channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The experimental results from 8 nm diameter silicon nanowire junctionless field effect transistors with gate lengths of 150 nm are presented that demonstrate on-currents up to 1.15 mA/m for 1.0 V and 2.52 mA/m for 1.8 V gate overdrive with an off-current

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Pentamodes: Effect of unit cell topology on mechanical properties

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Pentamodes (first conceived theoretically by Milton and Cherkaev) are a very interesting class of mechanical metamaterials that can be used as building blocks of structures withdecoupled bulk and shear moduli.

The drag coefficient of cylindrical spacecraft in orbit at altitudes greater than 150 km [PDF]

open access: yes
The spacecraft of the Geopotential Research Mission (GRM) are cylindrical in form and designed to fly with their longitudinal axes parallel to their direction of flight. The ratio of length to diameter of these spacecraft is roughly equal to 5.0.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Deformation simulation analysis and validation for large long-length-to-diameter ratio thin-walled cylindrical parts heat treatment

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Manufacturing and Special Equipment
Purpose Thin-walled cylindrical structures with large length-to-diameter ratios in the aerospace industry are vulnerable to deformation during manufacturing and heat treatment, which may cause product failure and affect equipment service life.
