Very-large-mode-area, single-mode multicore fiber

Optics Letters, 2009
A single-mode evanescently coupled multicore fiber consisting of 19 hexagonally arranged cores is investigated. Theoretical and experimental results are presented and compared to an equivalent hypothetical step-index fiber. A fundamental mode with an effective area of 465 microm(2) and a beam propagation factor M(2) of 1.02 was measured, showing the ...

Mode coupling in few-mode large-mode-area fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
We present an experimental study on mode coupling characteristics of few-mode large-mode-area (LMA) fibers, which are widely used in high power fiber lasers. The modal power allocation is measured by modal decomposition of the nearfield intensity profile of the output beam.

Parasitic Modes in Large Mode Area Microstructured Fibers

OFC/NFOEC 2007 - 2007 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2007
We present experimental evidence for parasitic modes guided by both bandgap and low density of state effects in large mode area silica microstructured fibers and explore ways of minimizing their presence via the fiber geometry.

The design of large-mode-area single-mode fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Based on the frustrated total internal reflection theory, a leaky large-mode-area double clad fiber is designed. The propagation constants and leakage loss of the fundamental mode LP 01 and sub-low order mode LP 11 is investigated by using of the matrix method. Results show that the designed fiber can operate with single-mode.
