Polarization-maintaining and single-mode large mode area pixelated Bragg fiber

Optics Letters, 2020
This Letter reports on a large mode area pixelated Bragg fiber in which some high refractive index rods were replaced by boron-doped rods that allows polarization maintaining behavior while keeping single-mode behavior. The realized all-solid fiber has a core diameter of 35 µm.

Highly dispersive large mode area photonic bandgap fiber

Optics Letters, 2007
An all-silica photonic bandgap fiber composed of a low-index core surrounded by alternating high- and low-index rings allows us to achieve a large mode area (500 microm(2)) and large chromatic dispersion. Sharp resonances from the even Bragg mode to odd ring modes theoretically lead to 20,000 ps/(nm km) chromatic dispersion when large bends are applied.

The design of large-mode-area single-mode fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Based on the frustrated total internal reflection theory, a leaky large-mode-area double clad fiber is designed. The propagation constants and leakage loss of the fundamental mode LP 01 and sub-low order mode LP 11 is investigated by using of the matrix method. Results show that the designed fiber can operate with single-mode.

Very-large-mode-area, single-mode multicore fiber: erratum

Optics Letters, 2010
In a previous Letter [Opt. Lett.34, 2876 (2009)] a small error concerning a label of a figure is corrected here.

Single-modeness of short large mode area fibers: An experimental study

Optics Communications, 2007
Abstract We experimentally investigated the limits to the endlessly single-modeness of large mode area photonic crystal fibers. We analyzed two versions of a commercial large mode area fiber with equal structural parameters but five or seven confining rings, and in both cases we found that the single mode regime becomes critical for short ( 1 m ...

Achieving Gaussian outputs from large-mode-area higher-order-mode fibers

Applied Optics, 2007
We describe an alternative to fiber-gratings for converting higher-order LP(0m) (m>1) fiber modes into a nearly fundamental Gaussian shape at the output of a fiber. This schematic enables the use of light propagation in higher-order modes of a fiber, a fiber-platform that has recently shown great promise for achieving very large mode areas needed for ...

Effective Area Limit for Large Mode Area Laser Fibers

OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008
We analyze practical constraints of fibers designs for achieving large mode area and single mode operation for fiber lasers, and provide estimated upper limits for the core diameter and effective area.

Polarization-mode dispersion of large mode-area photonic crystal fibers

Optics Communications, 2003
We report on an experimental study of the polarization properties of large mode-area photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). We find that such fibers may exhibit very low birefringence and polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) indicating a highly symmetrical hole structure over a long length.

Symmetry-Related Large-Area Corner Mode with a Tunable Mode Area and Stable Frequency

Physical Review Letters
Emergent collective modes in lattices give birth to many intriguing physical phenomena in condensed matter physics. Among these collective modes, large-area modes typically feature small-level spacings, while a mode with stable frequency tends to be spatially tightly confined.

Bend-compensated design of large-mode-area fibers

Optics Letters, 2006
Cone-shaped profiles illustrate the recently proposed bend-compensated strategy for large-mode-area amplifier fiber design. Simulations show that introducing a bend-compensating gradient into the fiber profile simultaneously improves mode area and reduces higher-order-mode impairments in a spooled-fiber amplifier.
