Large mode area aperiodic fiber designs for robust singlemode emission under high thermal load
International audienceIn this paper, we investigate the potential of various large mode area bers under thermal load, that is the state-of-the-art air-silica large pitch bers, as well as the recently devised symmetry-reduced photonic crystal ber and ...

Large mode area fibers with asymmetric bend compensation
Fibers with asymmetrical bend compensation offer to completely remove the tradeoff between mode area and single-modedness, with potentially huge impact on high-power amplification. These fibers would be difficult to fabricate, but are the only fundamental-mode strategy that can remove the bend-distortion limitations on mode-area scaling.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Large-mode-area multicore fibers in the single-moded regime
The effectively single-mode regime is analyzed for a class of large mode area multicore fibers. The performance tradeoff between bend loss, single-modedness, and mode area for these fibers is shown to be at best equivalent to step-index fiber.

This article demonstrates the successful qualification of a copper–tungsten composite for laser powder bed fusion. The resulting components exhibited high density, high thermal conductivity, and reduced thermal expansion. Heat sinks with complex geometries were successfully manufactured, clearly showcasing the material's potential for additive ...

Large Pitch Photonic Quasi-Crystal Fiber Amplifier
We design an ytterbium-doped large pitch photonic quasi-crystal fiber (PQF) for amplifying high-energy ultrashort laser pulses. The proposed fiber exhibits unique properties such as very large mode area (4660 μm2), less attenuation (0.42 dB/km ...

Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...
