Inactivation of AXL in Cardiac Fibroblasts Alleviates Right Ventricular Remodeling in Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive condition with high morbidity and mortality, largely owing to right ventricular (RV) failure resulting from maladaptive remodeling. Our study provides strong evidence in support of a critical, detrimental role for AXL as a previously unrecognized determinant driving RV fibrotic pathology in PH.

A Lung‐Immune Dual‐Humanized Mouse Using Cryopreserved Tissue Enables Infection and Immune Profiling of Human Common Cold Coronaviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cryopreserved lung‐humanized mice overcome the dependency to fresh tissues and permit head‐to‐head profiling of all four human common cold coronaviruses versus SARS‐CoV‐2 infection; the model validates Paxlovid efficacy against HKU1 and, when coupled with human immune‐system engraftment, enables interrogation of lung‐resident human immunity and HKU1 ...

Microglial Fkbp5 Impairs Post‐Stroke Vascular Integrity and Regeneration by Promoting Yap1‐Mediated Glycolysis and Oxidative Phosphorylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A post‐stroke perivascular niche of microglia characterized by low expression of M2 markers and elevated glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and phagocytic activity is identified, which is termed stroke‐activated vascular‐associated microglia (stroke‐VAM).

Determining the Ability of the Vision, Aphasia, and Neglect (VAN) Stroke Scale to Identify Large Vessel Occlusion Strokes Within the Prehospital Setting: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical Students, 2022
Background: One scale that has shown promise in identifying identify large vessel occlusions (LVOs) is the vision, aphasia, and neglect (VAN) scale. Our understanding of this scale’s true performance, however, is limited as a majority of studies have ...

Through Skull Fluorescence Imaging of the Brain in a New Near-Infrared Window

open access: yes, 2014
To date, brain imaging has largely relied on X-ray computed tomography and magnetic resonance angiography with limited spatial resolution and long scanning times.
