1995The genus Larix has 10 species and many varieties and hybrids. They are native in the cool-temperate and boreal regions of the northern hemisphere and in the Himalaya mountains (Gower & Richards, 1990). An outstanding characteristic of Larix is that it is the only conifer genus that is deciduous.

Somatic Embryogenesis in Larix Decidua
1991Success in somatic embryogenesis has been reported for conifer species since few years. Picea abies, P. glauca, P. mariana, Pinus taeda and P. lambertiana as well as Pseudotsuga menziesii have given embryogenic callus from immature and, for some species, mature zygotic embryos.

Phytochemistry, 1973Abstract Oleoresins from most species of the genus Larix have been analysed by GLC for their diterpene composition. Common to all are the abietadiene and isopimaradiene acids usual in Pinaceae with the corresponding aldehydes and alcohols in small amounts. Paternal inheritance of chloroplast DNA in Larix
Plant Molecular Biology, 1987Restriction enzyme analysis was used to determine the inheritance of chloroplast DNA in conifers. The plant material studied included five individual trees of European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) and Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Sieb. & Zucc.) and six hybrids from controlled crosses between these species.
