European larch (Larix decidua) is a native species from the Alps and from several mountainous ranges in Central Europe. Its early introduction outside its native range, especially in lowlands western and northern Europe has been problematic for ecological (phenology) and sanitary (canker) reasons due to the lack of knowledge of its genetic variability.

Somatic Embryogenesis in Larix Decidua
1991Success in somatic embryogenesis has been reported for conifer species since few years. Picea abies, P. glauca, P. mariana, Pinus taeda and P. lambertiana as well as Pseudotsuga menziesii have given embryogenic callus from immature and, for some species, mature zygotic embryos.
