Impacts of black soldier fly, (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) larval frass on tomato production
Journal of Economic Entomology, 2023Abstract The “insects as food and feed” movement is gaining considerable momentum as a novel means to provide protein to people (i.e., food) and other animals (i.e., feed). Insects require significantly fewer resources, such as water and land, to produce, process, and distribute as a food or feed source.

Anisakis simplex: The activity of larval products on the complement system
Experimental Parasitology, 2007The effects of the larval products (crude extract and excretory-secretory) of Anisakis simplex on the classical and alternative pathways of human complement system were investigated. This could constitute a mechanism to evade host defences, similarly than in other parasitic diseases. The larval products showed a stronger effect on the classical pathway

Population estimation of bocaccio (Sebastes paucispinis) based on larval production
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2010We estimate the stock size of bocaccio ( Sebastes paucispinis ) in the Southern California Bight based on the production of larvae. Area-weighted total length compositions of preflexion larvae in 2002 and 2003 were determined from ichthyoplankton survey data.

Larval fish production in the tidal River Elbe 1985–1986
Journal of Fish Biology, 1991In 1985 and 1986 ichthyoplankton composition was studied during seven sampling series at 37 stations along the tidal Elbe and its tributary rivers between Hamburg harbour and the North Sea. The highest larval density was observed in May and April. No, or very few, larvae occurred from late summer to early spring.

The production and characterisation of monoclonal antibodies to Lucilia cuprina larval antigens
International Journal for Parasitology, 1994A panel of murine monoclonal antibodies was produced against three Lucilia cuprina larval preparations that are unlikely to be exposed to the sheep's immune system during a normal infection. Antibodies were successfully produced against a crude third instar midgut homogenate preparation (MG), and Sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and Triton X-114 (TX ...

Relations between Egg Production, Larval Production and Spawning Stock Size in Clyde Herring
1974In 1957 the Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen conducted a preliminary survey of herring egg and larval distributions over Ballantrae Bank, the main spawning ground of the Clyde spring-spawning herring stock. In 1958 more systematic surveys were begun and, with some breaks due to unavailability of research vessels at the appropriate times, these have been ...

Parasite‐secreted products regulate the host response to larval Taenia crassiceps
Parasite Immunology, 2000Parasite‐induced immunosuppression is believed to play a significant role in the pathology of cysticercosis, a disease caused by the larval stage of cestode parasites. The biochemical basis for immunoregulation by Taenia crassiceps in experimental cysicercosis is unknown. In order to determine whether or not excretory/secretory (E/S) products from the

Characteristics of egg and larval production in captive bluespotted gobies
Journal of Fish Biology, 2001Spawning of the Hawaiian coral‐reef goby Asterropteryx semipunctata was diurnal, occurring at various times throughout the day. Mean length of eggs deposited in nests was 0·76 mm (range 0·67–0·84); mean egg width was 0·47 mm (range 0·41–0·52). Clutch size varied from 296 to 1552 eggs (mean=886±309), and was independent of standard length, total body ...

Moulting hormone production in the isolated larval abdomen of the Colorado beetle
Nature, 1975IN spite of the overwhelming evidence for the essential roles of the prothoracic glands in the synthesis of moulting hormone and the regulation of insect moulting and development1–3, several instances of moulting without prothoracic glands have been reported, either by extirpation (Galleria mellonella4 and Periplaneta americana5) or by ligation ...
