Performance of OpenBCI EEG Binary Intent Classification with Laryngeal Imagery [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
One of the greatest goals of neuroscience in recent decades has been to rehabilitate individuals who no longer have a functional relationship between their mind and their body. Although neuroscience has produced technologies which allow the brains of paralyzed patients to accomplish tasks such as spell words or control a motorized wheelchair, these ...

Comparison of the standard laryngeal mask airway and the ProSeal laryngeal mask airway in obese patients [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 2003
The ProSeal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) may have advantages over the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in obese patients. We tested this hypothesis in a clinical setting.Sixty obese patients (BMI >30) were randomized to receive mechanical ventilation (tidal volume 7 ml kg(-1), PEEP 10 cm H(2)O), through either the PLMA or the LMA. A gastric tube was used in

Exploring the Role and Skill Requirements of Registered Nurses Working in Rural and Remote Areas. A Scoping Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Nursing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Registered nurses (RN)s account for the majority of the rural and remote health workforce and require different skills, knowledge and working practices compared to their metropolitan counterparts. Given the complexity and diversity of the rural and remote work environment, it is important to investigate the contemporary literature

Validation of the Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
This study sought to psychometrically validate the Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity (DIGEST) scale in persons with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (pALS). Data confirm that the DIGEST scale is a reliable and valid VF outcome tool for use in clinical practice and as a clinical trial endpoint marker in pALS.

Comparison of Respiratory Complications between Endotracheal Intubation and Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) in Neonates Undergoing Inguinal Herniorrhaphy under General Anesthesia

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2017
Background: There is growing use of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) as an alternative for endotracheal intubation, in maintaining airway in patients undergoing general anesthesia.

A CT-Based Airway Segmentation Using U$^2$-net Trained by the Dice Loss Function [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Airway segmentation from chest computed tomography scans has played an essential role in the pulmonary disease diagnosis. The computer-assisted airway segmentation based on the U-net architecture is more efficient and accurate compared to the manual segmentation.

Historical Development and Experience of Day Surgery in China: From the Perspective of Anesthesiologists

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Day surgery has become the main mode of surgery in American and European countries, but it is still in the early stage in developing countries due to the limitation of medical technology and the backward management concept. At present, day surgery accounts for more than 60% of elective surgery in many countries in Europe and North ...

COMPARISON OF THE REINFORCED LARYNGEAL MASK AIRWAY AND ENDO TRACHEAL TUBE INTUBATION IN ADULT TONSILLECTOMY

open access: yesGomal Journal of Medical Sciences, 2014
Background: The endotracheal tube is considered the standard for airway control and protection during general anaesthesia, especially when the airway is ‘shared’ between the anaesthetist and the surgeon.

Airflow in a Multiscale Subject-Specific Breathing Human Lung Model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
The airflow in a subject-specific breathing human lung is simulated with a multiscale computational fluid dynamics (CFD) lung model. The three-dimensional (3D) airway geometry beginning from the mouth to about 7 generations of airways is reconstructed from the multi-detector row computed tomography (MDCT) image at the total lung capacity (TLC).
