Overview of lasers [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2008
Laser surgery of skin conditions having cosmetic implications has revealed the profound psychological benefits which are unmatched by any other modality of treatment either with or without a knife. An increasingly sophisticated understanding of the biophysics of laser-tissue interactions has lead to a more efficient utilization of the present ...

Neurotoxic amyloid β‐peptide and tau produce cytokine‐like effects on PMCA in glioblastoma cell lines, enhancing its activity and isoforms expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Two biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, amyloid β‐peptide (Aβ) and tau, induce the transformation of U‐251 and other glioblastoma cell lines into neurotoxic A1‐like reactive astrocytes. This transformation is produced by cytokines and is followed by upregulation of PMCA activity and isoform expression, and is closely associated with inflammation, as ...

Promoting Immortalized Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Transdifferentiation and Proliferation into Neuronal-Like Cells through Consecutive 525 nm and 825 nm Photobiomodulation

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2022
Neuronal cells can be generated from adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) through biological or chemical inducers. Research has shown that this process may be optimized by the introduction of laser irradiation in the form of photobiomodulation (PBM) to ...

Profiling the effect of low frequency mechanical vibration on the metabolic and oxidative stress responses of A431 carcinoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
20 Hz mechanical vibration induced A431 cancer cells' apoptosis without such effect on other healthy cell lines of L929 and C2C12. Lowered glucose consumption is observed specifically in A431. The expressions of ROS, HMGB1, and HSP1 levels initially increase and subsequently decrease in the cancer cell line, as opposed to L929 and C2C12, which ...

Grout or mortar removal by lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The method comprises the steps of directing the beam of a portable laser device (40) onto grout (14) at a power level to cause removal of the grout; causing mutual relative movement between said laser beam and said grout; and, providing removal means (30,

GDP‐fucose transporter SLC35C1: a potential regulatory role in cytosolic GDP‐fucose and fucosylated glycan synthesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inactivation of SLC35C1 (GDP‐fucose transporter) and enzymes involved in GDP‐fucose biosynthesis was studied. Fucose supplementation increases the level of GDP‐fucose to abnormal, millimolar values in the absence of the TSTA3 protein and SLC35C1 in contrast to the GMDS/SLC35C1 double mutant.
