Ultrafast nonlinearities in semiconductor laser amplifiers

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1994
The bound-electronic optical nonlinearities in highly excited semiconductors (i.e., semiconductor lasers) have been calculated using a two-parabolic-band model. The nonlinear absorption spectrum is first obtained using a dressed-state formalism taking into account the contributions from two-photon absorption, electronic Raman, and optical Stark effects.

High-power cladding-pumped Raman and erbium-ytterbium doped fibre sources

open access: yes, 2007
Raman fibres and rare-earth doped silica fibres have been investigated for many years as gain media for the amplification of optical signals in telecommunications thanks to their broad gain bandwidth. They are now widely used for that application.

Travelling-Wave Modeling of Dynamics of Ultrafast Reflective-Intracavity-Filter Tunable Fabry-Pérot Lasers for Optical Coherent Tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The dynamics of Fabry-Pérot external-cavity laser diodes frequency-swept at a high rate using a tunable intracavity filter are investigated by travelling-wave modelling. The effect of broad and narrow bandwidth filter properties and linewidth enhancement

Performance of a MOPA laser system for photo-cathode research [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
A Nd:YLF laser system with frequency doubled output is described. Several aspects concerning energy and stability of the pulses will be discussed. The system consists of a CW mode locked Nd:YLF oscillator and two double pass amplifiers having a total ...

Enhanced Terahertz Thermoelectricity Via Engineered Van Hove Singularities and Nernst Effect in Moiré Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Moiré band engineering in graphene/hexagonal boron nitride–based superlattices unlocks van Hove singularities (VHSs) for terahertz (THz) optoelectronics. Tuning the Fermi level near these singularities, associated with secondary neutrality points (SNPs), enhances the photothermoelectric response.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Impact of mode instability on polarization extinction ratio in backward pumped fiber amplifiers

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
The influence of mode instability (MI) on polarization extinction ratio (PER) has been investigated in a 2 kW level polarization-maintained (PM) fiber laser system with backward pumping configuration, and the phenomena is different from the existing ...

Time-resolved spectra of a self-pulsing quantum dot laser

open access: yes, 2010
Self-sustained pulsations in the output of an InAs quantum dot laser diode in the MHz range are reported for the first time. The characteristics (shape, range and frequency) are presented for the free running laser and when optical feedback in the ...

All-optical logic gates with 1550nm Fabry-Perot and distributed feedback semiconductor laser amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The optical bistability occurring in laser diode amplifiers is used to design an all-optical logic gate capable to provide the whole set of logic functions. The structure of the reported logic gate is based on two connected 1550nm laser amplifiers (Fabry-
