A study on the amplification of active-mirror Yb:YAG lasers

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science, 2018
Thermal effects and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) are two main factors in the design of high-power and high-energy laser amplifiers. The temperature distribution and the lateral ASE of the face-pumped active-mirror Yb:YAG amplifiers are analyzed ...

Assessing optical damage risks by simulating the amplification of back-reflection in a multi-petawatt laser system

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering
A technique developed to accurately simulate the amplification of back-reflected light through a multi-petawatt laser system is presented. Using the Frantz–Nodvik equation, we developed an iterative algorithm to simulate the amplification of the main ...

Characterization of the semiconductor optical amplifier for amplification and photonic switching employing the segmentation model

open access: yes, 2008
This paper characterizes the gain and the carrier density responses of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). In order to achieve the switching functions in SOA-based optical switches, such as Symmetric Mach-Zehnder (SMZ), the effect of the input ...

Cryogenic cooling for high power laser amplifiers

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
Using DPSSL (Diode Pumped Solid State Lasers) as pumping technology, PW-class lasers with enhanced repetition rates are developed. Each of the Yb YAG amplifiers will be diode-pumped at a wavelength of 940 nm.

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.
