Effects of Top-hat Laser Beam Processing and Scanning Strategies in Laser Micro-Structuring
The uniform energy distribution of top-hat laser beams is a very attractive property that can offer some advantages compared to Gaussian beams. Especially, the desired intensity distribution can be achieved at the laser spot through energy redistribution

Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Laguerre-Gaussian and beamlet array as second generation laser heater profiles
The microbunching instability is known to be detrimental to x-ray free electron laser performance. At the Linear Coherent Light Source, the microbunching instability is suppressed with a laser heater, which increases the uncorrelated energy spread of e ...

Random pinhole attenuator for high-power laser beams
The intensity attenuation of a high-power laser is a frequent task in the measurements of optical science. Laser intensity can be attenuated by inserting an optical element, such as a partial reflector, polarizer or absorption filter.

Model-independent inference of laser intensity
An ultrarelativistic electron beam passing through an intense laser pulse emits radiation around its direction of propagation into a characteristic angular profile.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Laser smoothing of binary gratings and multilevel etched structures in fused silica
We describe a promising approach to the processing of micro-optical components, where CO2 laser irradiation in raster scan is used to generate localized surface melting of binary or multilevel structures on silica, fabricated by conventional reactive-ion
