Laser cooling of ions in a neutral plasma

open access: yesScience, 2018
Making a strongly coupled plasma Plasmas—gases of ionized atoms and electrons—are naturally formed at high temperatures, such as those reached in the interiors of stars.

Structure, branching ratios, and a laser-cooling scheme for the BaF 138 molecule [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
For laser-cooling considerations, we have theoretically investigated the electronic, rovibrational, and hyperfine structures of the BaF molecule. The highly diagonal Franck-Condon factors and the branching ratios for all possible transitions within the ...

Comparison of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Energy Absorbers Under Uniaxial Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates LCD 3D printed Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) structures as mechanical energy absorbers. By comparing various base designs and layered combinations under uniaxial compression, it identifies that a Diamond‐Gyroid sandwich structure offers superior performance.

Laser noise in cavity-optomechanical cooling and thermometry

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
We review and study the roles of quantum and classical fluctuations in recent cavity-optomechanical experiments which have now reached the quantum regime (mechanical phonon occupancy ≲1) using resolved sideband laser cooling.

A Practical Noise2Noise Denoising Pipeline for High‐Throughput Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A lightweight and reproducible denoising pipeline for high‐throughput Raman spectroscopy is introduced, based on a 1D convolutional autoencoder trained with a Noise2Noise strategy. Using only repeated short‐exposure acquisitions, the method suppresses stochastic noise without reference spectra, enabling reliable spectral reconstruction while preserving

Defect Evolution and Mechanical Performance of Fused Filament Fabrication‐Manufactured 17‐4PH Stainless Steel Revealed by X‐Ray Computed Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography reveals how process‐induced defects evolve from green to sintered states in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)‐manufactured 17‐4PH stainless steel. Internal porosity, weakest cross‐sections, and fracture locations show strong correlation with tensile performance, demonstrating the potential of computed tomography (CT)‐based ...

Two-dimensional cooling without repump laser beams through ion motional heating

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Laser cooling typically requires one or more repump lasers to clear dark states, which complicates experimental setups, especially for systems with multiple repumping frequencies.

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Relevant parameters for laser surgery of soft tissue

open access: yesScientific Reports
In recent years, the laser has become an important tool in hospitals. Laser surgery in particular has many advantages. However, there is still a lack of the understanding of the influence of the relevant parameters for laser surgery.

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.
