Ring-laser configuration with spontaneous noise reduced by destructive interference of the laser outputs

Thin layered gain media in a ring cavity can lead to detection devices free of spontaneous-emission noise. A theoretical analysis and a physical explanation for the destructive interference of the spontaneous emission in one of the laser outputs are presented.

Laser-ultrasound-based non-destructive testing (NDT) applications usually use circular or linear thermoelastic sources. This paper studies two more complex sources and presents their specific advantages. The first thermoelastic source is a regular line array, whereas the second one is a chirped line array.

Biological tissue destruction under laser irradiation

Physical processes proceeding in a biological tissue under laser irradiation are described. Based on evaluation of all heat-mass transfer processes, a model of biological tissue destruction is proposed as the multiboundaryvalue Stefan problem with stepwise variation of thermophysical parameters at phase boundaries.
