Laser-produced plasma bubble

Physical Review E, 2000
In the aftermath of a plasma in atmospheric density H2 produced by a 6 ns, 600 mJ, 1064 nm, Nd:YAG laser pulse, a bubble develops behind the shock front. Within 2 micros the shock detaches from it, but the bubble persists for 100 micros before it is clearly turbulent.

Effect of laser on the plasma arc in laser-plasma hybrid welding

Journal of Laser Applications
This paper investigates the influence of laser on the plasma arc in laser-plasma hybrid welding. First, the external characteristics of the welding power supply were measured, the arc morphology was captured, and the weld bead morphology was analyzed. Then, a three-dimensional mathematical model was established to describe the interaction between the ...

Laser-pulsed plasma chemistry: Laser-initiated plasma oxidation of niobium

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1983
We report the first observation of the chemical modification of a solid surface exposed to an ambient gas plasma initiated by the interaction of laser radiation with the same surface. A new technique, which we designate laser-pulsed plasma chemistry (LPPC), is proposed for activating heterogeneous chemical reactions at solid surfaces in a gaseous ...

Characterization of laser plasmas for interaction studies

Physical Review E, 1994
Long scale length plasmas were produced by uniform laser irradiation from opposite sides of metal disks coated on thin plastic stripe targets. The plasma became fully underdense before the end of the 600-ps pulse. The evolution of the plasma was carefully characterized both in electron density and temperature, and the experimental data were compared to

Structure of an exploding laser-produced plasma

Physics of Plasmas, 2010
Currents and instabilities associated with an expanding dense plasma embedded in a magnetized background plasma are investigated by direct volumetric probe measurements of the magnetic field and floating potential. A diamagnetic cavity is formed and found to collapse rapidly compared to the expected magnetic diffusion time.

Lasers for laser-plasma acceleration

Proceedings of the International School of Physics “Enrico Fermi”
In this lecture we will review some of the requirements when designing and operating laser systems for laser-plasma acceleration. We will analyse the impact of the different components of the laser system on the final output and discuss how they can be mitigated against or prevented. We will study some of the existing laser facilities used for particle
