Speckle Noise Reduction via Linewidth Broadening for Planetary Laser Reflectance Spectrometers

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The low obliquity of the Moon leads to challenging solar illumination conditions at the poles, especially for passive reflectance measurements aimed at determining the presence and extent of surface volatiles.

Bioactive Conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce Hydrogel Facilitates Spinal Cord Injury Repair Through ROS Scavenging and Mitochondrial Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioactive conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce hydrogels with with scavenging ROS and alleviating neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction are exploited for SCI treatment. This functionality is attributed to interfacial activation modification of Ti3C2Tx with Ce3+ ions to in‐situ form Ce(OH)x‐mediated protective layer, which is beneficial to enabling stable intracellular ...

Optical correlation techniques for the investigation of colloidal systems

open access: yes, 2013
This review aims to provide a simple introduction to the application of optical correlation methods in colloidal science. In particular, I plan to show that full appraisal of the intimate relation between light scattering and microscopy allows designing ...

Design Strategies and Emerging Applications of High‐Performance Flexible Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors underpin wearable and soft electronics. This review links sensing physics, including contact resistance modulation, quantum tunneling and percolation, to unified materials/structure design. We highlight composite and graded architectures, interfacial/porous engineering, and microstructured 3D conductive networks

Harnessing speckle for a sub-femtometre resolved broadband wavemeter and laser stabilization

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
The complex speckle pattern produced by coherent multiple scattering contains information about the incident light field, which has recently been used for imaging. Metzgeret al. use speckle to construct a wavemeter with sub-femtometre resolution which is

A Portable Compact System for Laser Speckle Correlation Imaging of Artworks Using Projected Speckle Pattern

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2020
Artworks have a layered structure subjected to alterations caused by various factors. The monitoring of defects at sub-millimeter scale may be performed by laser interferometric techniques.

Effect of optical disorder and single defects on the expansion of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a one-dimensional waveguide

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the one-dimensional expansion of a Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical guide in the presence of a random potential created with optical speckles. With the speckle the expansion of the condensate is strongly inhibited.

Texoskeletons: Developing the Fundamental Technologies for Creating Intelligent Soft Robotic Clothing With Integrated 1D Sensors and Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional wearable exoskeletons rely on rigid structures, which limit comfort, flexibility, and everyday usability. This work introduces the fundamental technologies to create the first soft, lightweight, intelligent textile‐based exoskeletons (Texoskeletons) built using 1D sensors and actuators.

Imaging blood cells through scattering biological tissue using speckle scanning microscopy

open access: yes, 2013
Using optical speckle scanning microscopy [1], we demonstrate that clear images of multiple cells can be obtained through biological scattering tissue, with subcellular resolution and good image quality, as long as the size of the imaging target is ...

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.
