This study reports for the first time the mechanical properties of brazed joints featuring Additively manufactured parts, such parts will likely need to be joined or combined with other components, and brazing offers a way of doing this for complex shapes without distortion. A new shear test methodology developed for such joints is also described.

The functional properties of Fe–Mn–Si–Cr‐based shape memory alloys are influenced, among other things, by their chemical composition. Here, the vaporization of Mn, the most volatile element of the alloy, is investigated. It is shown that the process parameters make noninterchangeable contributions to the vaporization and that vaporization differences ...

Influences of Laser Spot Welding on Magnetic Property of a Sintered NdFeB Magnet
Laser welding has been considered as a promising method to join sintered NdFeB permanent magnets thanks to its high precision and productivity. However, the influences of laser welding on the magnetic property of NdFeB are still not clear. In the present

Defect Imaging and Detection of Precipitates Using a New Scanning Positron Microbeam [PDF]
We report on a newly developed scanning positron microbeam based on threefold moderation of positrons provided by the high intensity positron source NEPOMUC. For brightness enhancement a remoderation unit with a $100\,$nm thin Ni(100) foil and 9.6% efficiency is applied to reduce the area of the beam spot by a factor of 60.

Development of Aluminum Scandium Alloys for Hydrogen Storage Valves
Different aluminum alloy series and various aluminum‐scandium alloys with differing Sc and Zr levels are evaluated for use in hydrogen storage valve production. The alloys undergo hardness testing, optical microscopy, and tensile strength analysis, with hardening behavior studied under varying conditions.

Historical overview on Vacuum suitable Welding and fatigue resistance in Research Devices [PDF]
New inventions change the approach of vacuum suitable welding for research purpose. With orbital welding, laser welding and robot welding the possibilities increase to fabricate larger vessels more accurately. Despite this development there is still no perfect understanding on how to avoid virtual leaks and how to make such joints suitable for dynamic ...

A Testbed for Investigation of Selective Laser Melting at Elevated Atmospheric Pressure [PDF]
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) builds upon fundamentals established in the field of laser welding which include the influence of gas and plume dynamics on weld depth and quality. L-PBF demands a thorough investigation of the complex thermophysical phenomena that occur where the laser interacts with the metal powder

Robot-sensor synchronization for real-time seamtracking in robotic laser welding [PDF]
The accuracy requirements of laser welding put high demands on the manipulator that is used. To use industrial six-axis robots for manipulating the laser welding optics, sensors measuring the seam trajectory close to the focal spot are required to meet ...
