Suppression of beating noise of narrow-linewidth erbium-doped fiber ring lasers by use of a semiconductor optical amplifier [PDF]
Beating noise in narrow-linewidth erbium-doped fiber ring lasers puts severe limitations on applications of the lasers. We demonstrate the suppression of beating noise in fiber ring lasers by using a semiconductor optical amplifier in the laser cavity ...

Multiple wavelength InGaAs quantum dot lasers using selective area epitaxy [PDF]
The authors demonstrate multiple wavelength lasers fabricated from InGaAsquantum dots. Selective area epitaxy is used to grow the active region, consisting of five layer stack of InGaAsquantum dots with different band gapenergies in selected regions of ...

The piston Riemann problem in a photon superfluid
The flow of light in nonlinear media can be considered as superfluid flow and described with quantum hydrodynamics. Here the authors demonstrate superfluid flow, optical rarefaction (retracting piston) and shock (pushing piston) wave pairs and ...

Auger recombination in quantum-well InGaAsP heterostructure lasers [PDF]
Interband nonradiative Auger recombination in quantum-well InGaAsP/InP heterostructure lasers has been calculated. It is found that the Auger rate is much reduced in the quasi two-dimensional quantum-well lasers.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

A unified theory for surface emitting chirped circular grating lasers [PDF]
We develop a unified theory to analyze the modal properties of surface emitting chirped circular grating lasers. Based on solving the resonance conditions which involve two types of reflectivities of chirped circular gratings, this theory is ...

Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.
