Late Devonian acanthodians from Colombia

Journal of South American Earth Sciences, 2003
Acanthodian remains occur in micaceous siltstone lenses (presumed to have been deposited during a marine incursion) in the Cuche Formation (?Frasnian) of northeast Colombia. The acanthodians are represented by patches of scales from climatiidid Nostolepis sp. cf. N. gatijensis and a fin spine and scales from a new diplacanthid.

A Late Devonian actinopterygian suggests high lineage survivorship across the end-Devonian mass extinction

Nature Ecology & Evolution, 2022
Many accounts of the early history of actinopterygians (ray-finned fishes) posit that the end-Devonian mass extinction had a major influence on their evolution. Existing phylogenies suggest this episode could have acted as a bottleneck, paring the early diversity of the group to a handful of survivors.

Estuarine fish and tetrapod evolution: insights from a Late Devonian (Famennian) Gondwanan estuarine lake and a southern African Holocene equivalent

Biological Reviews of The Cambridge Philosophical Society, 2020
The Waterloo Farm lagerstätte in South Africa provides a uniquely well‐preserved record of a Latest Devonian estuarine ecosystem. Ecological evidence from it is reviewed, contextualised, and compared with that available from the analogous Swartvlei ...

Middle/Late Devonian Phoebodontbased ichthyolith zonation

Geobios, 1995
Abstract A subdivision of the upper part of the Devonian (varcus through praesulcata conodont zones) into six ichthyolith zones is proposed. The zonation is based on the stratigraphic ranges of elasmobranch teeth from the pelagic facies of Central and Eastern Europe. Species of the genus Phoebodus were chosen as index taxa.

Palaeobiogeography of Famennian (Late Devonian) bryozoans

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2010
Abstract Bryozoans were widely distributed in marine habitats of the Famennian (Late Devonian) worldwide. This time interval was marked by gradual change in taxonomic composition of bryozoan faunas, which were insignificantly affected by global events (Upper Kellwasser, Handerberg). Distribution of bryozoan faunas was controlled by intrinsic factors (

Late Devonian carbon isotope chemostratigraphy: A new record from the offshore facies of South China

Global and Planetary Change, 2019
We present a new biostratigraphically constrained carbon isotope record from the Lali section (South China) to document perturbations in the Late Devonian carbon cycle.

A complete insect from the Late Devonian period

Nature, 2012
After terrestrialization, the diversification of arthropods and vertebrates is thought to have occurred in two distinct phases, the first between the Silurian and the Frasnian stages (Late Devonian period) (425-385 million years (Myr) ago), and the second characterized by the emergence of numerous new major taxa, during the Late Carboniferous period ...
