Muscular effects in late polio

New or increased muscular weakness, fatigue and muscle and joint pain with neuropathic electromyography (EMG) changes in a person with a confirmed history of polio constitute the cardinal symptoms of the post‐polio syndrome. Unusual tiredness or fatigue is a common complaint in late polio subjects as is intolerance to cold.

Osseous changes at the hips were seen in the radiographs of 36 children with long-standing juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) and no significant steroid therapy. Seven boys and one girl had progressive primary inflammatory destruction of the hip with erosive arthritis and progressive joint space narrowing.
