Acute HSV-1 Ocular Infection Is Impaired in KLF15 Knockout Mice but Stress-Induced Reactivation from Latency Is Prolonged in Male KLF15 Knockout Mice

open access: yesPathogens
Acute human alpha-herpesvirus 1 (HSV-1) infection culminates in a latent infection of neurons in trigeminal ganglia (TG) and the central nervous system.

TSTScope Unifies Single‐Cell Multi‐Omics to Identify Functional T Cell States Predictive of Immunotherapy Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TSTScope is an interpretable AI framework that integrates single‐cell transcriptomes with TCR information through curated gene‐program constraints. By linking receptor context to functional T cell states, it reveals response‐associated tumor‐specific T cell programs in lung cancer immunotherapy cohorts and defines an MPR score associated with ...

Functional Sex Reversal in Adult Gonochoristic Teleosts is Mediated by Ovarian Germline Stem Cell Plasticity and Somatic Cell Transdifferentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oocytes play crucial roles in maintaining ovarian fate in adult gonochoristic fish. Targeted oocyte ablation with aromatase inhibition triggers the activation of surviving germline stem cells and the transdifferentiation of somatic cells from granoulosa/theca to Sertoli/Leydig lineages, inducing a complete and functional female‐to‐male sex reversal ...

Endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1 Regulation of SYNE1 Mediates Structural and Functional Recovery after Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1 deletion promotes long‐term recovery after traumatic brain injury by restoring SYNE1 expression. Enhanced endothelial SYNE1 preserves vascular integrity, protects white and gray matter, and improves neurological function. The endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1–SYNE1 axis emerges as a key regulator of neurovascular repair and a potential ...

Interleukin-17A directly triggers Epstein-Barr virus lytic reactivation in latency I human B-cell models

open access: yesJournal of Virology
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human gammaherpesvirus implicated in inflammatory, malignant, and autoimmune diseases. Although EBV toggles between latent and lytic states, the host cues controlling this switch remain incompletely defined ...

Mathematical and Statistical Modelling of HIV Latency and Reactivation [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis explores latency and reactivation of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through the use of mathematical and statistical methods. Since HIV was first identified in the 1980s, it has become one of the leading causes of death from an ...

CpG methylation controls reactivation of HIV from latency. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
DNA methylation of retroviral promoters and enhancers localized in the provirus 5' long terminal repeat (LTR) is considered to be a mechanism of transcriptional suppression that allows retroviruses to evade host immune responses and antiretroviral drugs.

Loss of LCN2 Function Ameliorates Glucocorticoid‐Induced Muscle Atrophy via Remodeling the Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glucocorticoids transcriptionally activate LCN2 expression via GR nuclear translocation. Secreted LCN2 binds MMP9 to degrade skeletal muscle ECM collagen, blocks integrin‐mediated mechanotransduction, bidirectionally disrupts muscle protein homeostasis, and reveals a novel target for steroid‐induced muscle atrophy.

The nucleic acid binding protein SFPQ represses EBV lytic reactivation by promoting histone H1 expression

open access: yesNature Communications
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) uses a biphasic lifecycle of latency and lytic reactivation to infect >95% of adults worldwide. Despite its central role in EBV persistence and oncogenesis, much remains unknown about how EBV latency is maintained.
