Underfloor heating with latent heat storage

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2001
Underfloor heating is known for its comfort due to the low and favourable temperature gradient in the heated space above the large floor area available for heating. This paper addresses the idea of improving the existing underfloor heating system by using an encapsulated phase change material (PCM) that melts and solidifies at about 28 °C, placed in ...

Underground Storage of Latent Heat: Theory and Experiments

2018
Thermal heat storage in the subsurface can be in the form of latent heat. In this way heat can be stored in the form of ice, where heat is stored when ice melts, and heat is extracted by ice formation. We investigate the use of a borehole device for heat exchange with the subsurface.

Latent Heat Storage: Storage Materials, Heat Transfer, and Applications

ChemBioEng Reviews, 2017
AbstractPhase change materials are frequently used in thermal storage systems due to their large latent heat und isothermal nature. This paper discusses different phase change materials. Techniques for improving their thermophysical properties are highlighted. Their corrosive effects on the stability of construction materials are approached.

Heat Transfer Enhancement in Latent Heat Storage Units

11th AIAA/ASME Joint Thermophysics and Heat Transfer Conference, 2014
In the present work, latent heat thermal storage devices that use an array of fins are studied experimentally and theoretically. The thermal storage charging/discharging process is driven by a hot/cold heat transfer fluid (HTF) flowing inside the tube from which heat is conducted to the fins that are in contact with the bulk of the PCM inside a ...

Chapter 10. Latent Heat Storage Devices

2021
Successful utilisation of a phase change material (PCM) depends on the design of a storage device which provides not only the containment of the PCM but also means for charging and discharging through, for example, heat transfer fluid (HTF). A typical PCM based latent heat storage device is often made of various components, and it can only function ...

Heat transfer in a latent heat-storage system

Energy, 1989
The heat-recovery rate has been determined in a latent-heat storage unit using Na2HPO4 · 12H2O as a heat-storage medium. The effects of the liquid flow rate and inlet temperature of the heat-transfer fluid on the heat-recovery rate have been determined. The heat-recovery rate decreases sharply at the beginning of the heat-recovery stage.
