ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Upregulation of endocan by Epstein-Barr virus latent membrane protein 1 and its clinical significance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. [PDF]
Endocan (or called Esm-1) has been shown to have tumorigenic activities and its expression is associated with poor prognosis in various cancers. Latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) is an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded oncoprotein and has been shown to ...

Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis reactivates latent HIV-1 in T cells in vitro. [PDF]
Following proviral integration into the host cell genome and establishment of a latent state, the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) can reenter a productive life cycle in response to various stimuli. HIV-1 reactivation occurs when transcription

Modulation of Epstein-Barr Virus Latent Membrane Protein 1 Activity by Intrabodies
Objective: The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been implicated in the development of many human neoplasias including B lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. EBV latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) is essential to virus-induced B cell immortalization and the downregulation of cell adhesion molecules that increases cell motility. Therefore,

Evaluation of Latent Membrane Protein 1 as a novel vaccine adjuvant [PDF]
Methods To determine activity, LMP1 was analyzed using a luciferase report assay for NF-kB and IFN-b. To establish if LMP1 could activate human monocyte-derived dendritic cells (DC), LMP1 transfected DC were analyzed for activation/maturation markers and cytokines. DC migration was determined using a transwell-migration assay.

Exome and genome sequencing of nasopharynx cancer identifies NF-κB pathway activating mutations
Nasopharyngeal cancer is frequently characterized by Epstein-Barr virus infection. Here, using genomic analyses, the authors find that the tumours harbour mutations in genes involved in the NF-κB signalling pathway or overexpress a viral oncoprotein ...
