Bilateral Bloody Pleural Effusions With Discordant Cellular Patterns: A Case of Concurrent Parapneumonic Effusion and Dressler Syndrome

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
This case demonstrates a rare concurrent presentation of parapneumonic effusion and Dressler syndrome, which presented as bilateral bloody pleural effusions with discordant cellular profiles. The bloody nature was possibly exacerbated by the concomitant use of a direct oral anticoagulant and aspirin.

Annual Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection risk and interpretation of clustering statistics. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Several recent studies have used proportions of tuberculosis cases sharing identical DNA fingerprint patterns (i.e., isolate clustering) to estimate the extent of disease attributable to recent transmission. Using a model of introduction and transmission

Slit2/Robo Signaling Restores Diabetic Erectile Function via Neurovascular Remodeling

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 1831-1846, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Diabetes mellitus‐induced erectile dysfunction (DMED) is a common and debilitating vascular‐neurogenic complication of diabetes. The poor responsiveness of DMED patients to phosphodiesterase type‐5 inhibitors underscores the need for therapies capable of restoring both endothelial integrity and cavernous nerve function.

Processionary Moth Exposure in Europe: Toxic–Irritant and Immunoglobulin E‐Mediated Endotypes, Diagnosis and Management

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Allergy, Volume 56, Issue 9, Page 1017-1030, September 2026.
Most reactions are toxic–irritant, driven by epithelial injury and neuro‐inflammatory activation. IgE‐mediated allergy is less common but may cause immediate systemic reactions. Endotype differentiation guides diagnosis, risk stratification and management.

Control of gammaherpesvirus latency by latent antigen-specific CD8(+) T cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The contribution of the latent antigen-specific CD8(+) T cell response to the control of gammaherpesvirus latency is currently obscure. Some latent antigens induce potent T cell responses, but little is known about their induction or the role they play ...
