HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Modeling homophily and stochastic equivalence in symmetric relational data [PDF]
This article discusses a latent variable model for inference and prediction of symmetric relational data. The model, based on the idea of the eigenvalue decomposition, represents the relationship between two nodes as the weighted inner-product of node ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Tensor decompositions for learning latent variable models [PDF]
This work considers a computationally and statistically efficient parameter estimation method for a wide class of latent variable models---including Gaussian mixture models, hidden Markov models, and latent Dirichlet allocation---which exploits a certain

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Developing a Variation Index for Understanding Step Characteristics in the Long Jump Approach Run
Objectives. The prime objective of the study was to develop a new variation index that can be used to identify the mechanical variations in the step pattern of the approach run. Materials and methods.

THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF IDENTIFICATION AND EVALUATION OF SCHOOL EDUCATION QUALITY
The paper considers one of the main theoretical and practical pedagogical problems of education quality assessment. The quality measurement depends on successful identification of genuine (scientific) and false diagnostic methods; the process becomes ...

Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Unbalanced Learning of Generative Adversarial Network Based on Latent Posterior
Based on the problem that the oversampling method in the existing unbalanced classification problem cannot fully utilize the data probability density distribution, a method named latent posterior based generative adversarial network for oversampling ...
