Lateral-force measurements in dynamic force microscopy
Lateral forces between the tip of a force microscope and atomic-scale features on the surface of a sample can be accurately measured in a noncontact mode. Feedback-controlled excitation of the torsional eigenmode of a rectangular cantilever beam forces the tip to oscillate parallel to the surface.

Characterizing Cutaneous α‐Synuclein Deposition and Seeding Activity in Parkinson's Disease Subtypes
ABSTRACT Objective Cutaneous phosphorylated α‐synuclein (p‐syn) and α‐synuclein seeding activity are promising biomarkers for Parkinson's disease (PD), but their clinical value remains uncertain due to disease heterogeneity. This study evaluates these two biomarkers in PD patients to inform phenotype‐specific diagnosis and disease severity assessment ...

Data‐Driven SuStaIn Model of Disability Progression in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether ordinal Subtype and Stage Inference (SuStaIn) applied to routine ALSFRS‐R item scores can identify reproducible disability progression patterns in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and provide clinically meaningful staging.

New Method to Evaluate the Groove Wander Effect on an Internal Drum Test Bench
This research paper describes a new method to measure the groove wander effect on real concrete road surfaces using an Internal Drum Test Bench. Groove wander describes lateral forces resulting from interactions between a tire and the road surface ...

Lateral and Bottom Forces on Longshore Currents
A two-component electromagnetic flowmeter has been used on a natural beach of slope 0.01 to measure mean longshore currents and the horizontal fluctuating velocities in the frequency range 0-1 Hz. The measurements extend up to 120 m offshore and span about one third of a wide surf-zone.

Boundary‐Dependent Sleep–Wake Dysregulation in Idiopathic Hypersomnia
ABSTRACT Objective Idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) presents with excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) despite apparently preserved nocturnal sleep, challenging traditional models of hypersomnolence based on sleep loss or fragmentation. We aimed to test the hypothesis that EDS in IH reflects excessive stabilization of the sleep state, consistent with ...

Anorectal Dysfunction in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Phenotypes and Functional Patterns
Objective The aim of this study was to characterize specific physiologic defects in anorectal dysfunction in systemic sclerosis (SSc) using anorectal manometry (ARM), evaluate associations with gastrointestinal (GI) and extraintestinal clinical phenotypes, and explore potential serologic markers for risk stratification.

Objective Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by cardiovascular risk excess not fully explained by traditional factors. Whether the severity of microvascular damage correlates with structural subclinical atherosclerosis remains unclear. We investigated the relationship between nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) abnormalities and carotid ...

Prediction and Analysis of Casing Wear in Medium-deep Horizontal Wells
During drilling operation, it is especially important to predict the casing wear in some complex wells and take corresponding anti-wear measures. By taking two complex wells targeting middle-deep formation for case study, the wear condition of the casing
