Efficient algorithms for lateral gene transfer problems

This paper develops a model for lateral gene transfer events (a.k.a. horizontal gene transfer events) between a set of gene trees T1, T2, …, Tk and a species tree S. To the best of our knowledge, this model possesses a higher degree of biological and mathematical soundness than any other model proposed in the literature.

Trends and barriers to lateral gene transfer in prokaryotes

Gene acquisition by lateral gene transfer (LGT) is an important mechanism for natural variation among prokaryotes. Laboratory experiments show that protein-coding genes can be laterally transferred extremely fast among microbial cells, inherited to most of their descendants, and adapt to a new regulatory regime within a short time.

Lateral gene transfer in phylogeny of azoreductase enzyme

This paper attempts to reconstruct the phylogeny of azoreductase enzyme from different organisms and compare it with the small subunit rRNA-based phylogeny of the organisms. The two phylogenies were found to be incongruent, indicating several events of lateral transfer of azoreductase gene between phylogenetically diverse organisms.
