Lateral Load Sharing by Diaphragms in Wood‐Framed Buildings

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1993
Current analysis and design procedures for light‐frame wood buildings do not give consideration to the complex three‐dimensional structural response of the buildings. A full‐scale single‐story wood house is constructed and tested under lateral loads at various stages of loading to evaluate the structural response and load‐sharing characteristics ...

Investigation of Wood Shear Walls Subjected to Lateral Load

Structures, 2018
Abstract This paper summarizes results of 15 tests from the first phase of a study on lateral resistance of wood-frame shear walls without openings, constructed with traditional dimensional lumber and Oriented Strand Board panels (OSB). The next phases considered shear walls with strap ties, bracings, and uplift are presented in subsequent papers ...

Stability Capacity and Lateral Bracing Requirements of Wood Beam-Columns

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2010
This paper presents a study on the stability capacity and lateral bracing requirements of wood beam-columns subjected to biaxial eccentric compression loads. Material property tests and wood beam-column tests were conducted to provide input parameters and verification to a finite element method based numerical analysis model.

Withdrawal and lateral resistance of wood screw in beech, hornbeam and poplar

European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2009
Withdrawal and lateral resistance of wood screw in three hardwood species of beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky.), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) and poplar (Populus deltoides 75/51) were studied. Measured values of ultimate withdrawal resistance of wood screws were compared with predicted values.

Thermal Degradation of Lateral Yield Strength of Nailed Wood Connections

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2011
This study investigated the effect of exposure to elevated temperature on the yield strength of single-shear nail connections when subjected to lateral loading. Solid sawn lumber and laminated veneer lumber were used as framing members and two different thicknesses of both oriented strand board and plywood were used as the sheathing members.

Laterally Loaded Nail Joints in Wood

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1990
Finite element analysis of laterally loaded nails is shown to give accurate load deformation relationships for a variety of nail joint details. Analytical results are in good agreement with experimental tests. Nonlinear nail and wood material properties from simple tests on nails and on the wood are used as input for the analyses.

Lateral Collapse Potential of Wood Stringer-Type Pallets

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1988
Abstract Lateral collapse of wood stringer-type pallets is defined as an overturning of stringers due to in-plane lateral impact loads or vibration. This failure results in increased handling costs, potential product and equipment damage, and possible human injury.

Lateral Stability Considerations for Composite Wood I-Joists

2005 Tampa, FL July 17-20, 2005, 2005
Lateral buckling loads for cantilevered and simply supported composite wood I-joists were measured over a wide range of bending slenderness ratios. The same buckling loads were then predicted using three previously published lateral stability models. A recommendation is made for the best model for predicting the lateral buckling loads for composite ...
