Lateral collapse potential of wood pallets

2019
Lateral collapse is a failure mode of wood pallets which most frequently occurs during transportation and handling. The study objective was to develop a simplified procedure for making relative comparisons in the lateral collapse potential of competing pallet designs.

The effect of lateral bracing on the dynamic response of wood floor systems

2014
This thesis presents the results of an extensive study of several types of lateral bracing for solid-sawn and parallel-chord truss floor systems. Three solid-sawn floor bracing systems were evaluated: X-bridging, full-depth solid blocking, and finally, post-tensioned solid-blocking.

LATERAL PERFORMANCE OF LIGHT-FRAME WOOD SHEAR WALLS WITH OVERSIZED WOOD STRUCTURAL PANELS

This study investigates improvements to lateral performance of light-frame wood shear walls using oversized sheathing panels with different nail configurations and edge spacings. The effect of using oversized wood structural panels has been evaluated by numerical finite element analysis and validated by series of experimental tests in isolated wood ...

Plywood‐Solid‐Wood Nailed Joints under Lateral Loading

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 1993
Data collected from tests on 240 nailed joints connecting Douglas-fir plywood side members to solid-sawn Douglas-fir main members were analyzed with the intention of applying the European yield model (EYM) to predict joint behavior under lateral loading.

Serenades and elegies : the later music of Hugh Wood part II. [PDF]

open access: possible, 2005
Geoffrey Hill's latest book of poems, Scenes from Comus, borrows its title from Wood's op. 6, and is dedicated to the composer for his seventieth birthday. The two men have been friends for many years and are exact contemporaries: for the poet's seventieth birthday, Wood wrote a vocal-instrumental setting of Hill's Tenebrae.

Springs, Woods and Transhumance: Reconstructing a Pennine Landscape during Later Prehistory

Landscapes, 2004
AbstractThis article explores evidence for the nature of a Pennine landscape – the Wensleydale, Swaledale and the Swale/Tees-Greta Uplands (Figure 1) – in Later Prehistory. It portrays an environment with a complex mosaic of woodlands, different from the moors and dales we know today but with important continuities between the present and the past.
