Wood peeling process monitoring: a comparison of signal processing methods to estimate veneer average lathe check frequency [PDF]
Experienced peeling operators are able to adjust the settings of their device by hearing the sound coming from the process. Based on this idea, a research program was undertaken to evaluate the possibility of using acoustic or vibration measurements supplying a support decision system to assist untrained operators.

Numerical study of the influence of veneer lathe checks on the elastic mechanical properties of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) made of beech [PDF]
Abstract Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is a well-known high-performance engineered wood product suitable for structural applications. However, the peeling process can induce lathe checks of the veneer with various depth and spatial frequencies.

Development of a lathe work operation planning system with complete collision-check faculty.
A new automatic operation planning system for NC lathes is developed. Contour of a workpiece and several possible clamping positions are the input data. The domain between contours of a blank-part and a finished-part is divided into subdomains called blocks.

Working at Boimondau: A Community Experience
Abstract In the 1940s and 1950s, France witnessed the emergence of labor communities whose ambition was to escape capitalism and abolish wage labor. This article focuses on Boimondau, the best‐known community at the time. In terms of work, the central activity in the life of the community, two main tensions lastingly structured the collective and ...

Abstract Purpose This study aims to evaluate the effects of adding titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes (NTs) to three‐dimensional (3D) printed denture base resin on the thermal and thermomechanical properties, which have high clinical relevance. Materials and Methods TiO2 NTs with dimensions of 30–70 nm in diameter and 2–4 µm in length were added to the ...

Distributed computing for the reconstruction of multi‐terabyte tomographic X‐ray imaging datasets
As tomographic datasets from synchrotrons continue to increase in volume, so rises the challenge of reconstructing said data. Here we present a solution utilizing high‐performance computing capabilities to split the process into multiple smaller tasks, which can be solved without overwhelming a single compute node.
