Towards Exascale Lattice Boltzmann computing [PDF]

open access: yesComputers & Fluids, 2019
We discuss the state of art of Lattice Boltzmann (LB) computing, with special focus on prospective LB schemes capable of meeting the forthcoming Exascale challenge. After reviewing the basic notions of LB computing, we discuss current techniques to improve the performance of LB codes on parallel machines and illustrate selected leading-edge ...

Scalable Thermal Engineering via Femtosecond Laser‐Direct‐Written Phononic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that femtosecond laser‐induced periodic surface structures (fs‐LIPSS) can function as phononic metasurfaces, reducing thermal conductivity below the plain thin‐film limit. Phonon Monte Carlo analysis reveals that the periodic structures restrict phonon mean free paths.

Direct numerical simulation of complex viscoelastic flows via fast lattice-Boltzmann solution of the Fokker–Planck equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Micro–macro simulations of polymeric solutions rely on the coupling between macroscopic conservation equations for the fluid flow and stochastic differential equations for kinetic viscoelastic models at the microscopic scale.

Stacking‐Engineered Magnonic Topology and Transport in Honeycomb Homobilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Topological magnons have emerged as a promising platform for dissipationless bosonic transport. However, a straightforward and effective strategy to engineer such topological states in real materials has yet to be fully realized. Here, a general scheme for controlling magnonic topological states via stacking engineering in van der Waals ...

Application of the hybrid-type method of Brownian dynamics and lattice Boltzmann to magnetic particle suspensions

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2015
We have investigated the feasibility of the hybrid-type method of lattice Boltzmann and Brownian dynamics as a simulation technique for a magnetic particle suspension.

A Partial Entropic Lattice Boltzmann MHD Simulation of the Orszag-Tang Vortex

open access: yes, 2017
Karlin has introduced an analytically-determined entropic lattice Boltzmann algorithm for Navier-Stokes turbulence. Here this is partially extended to a lattice Boltzmann model of magnetohydrodynamics, on using the vector distribution function approach ...

Trap‐Assisted Transport and Neuromorphic Plasticity in Lead‐Free 2D Perovskites PEA2SnI4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An artificial retina built from lead‐free layered perovskite (PEA)2SnI4 converts light input into a persistent photocurrent and sums successive flashes over time. Micro/nanocrystals integrated on electrodes act as synapse‐like pixels that perform temporal integration directly in hardware. This in‐sensor preprocessing merges detection and computation on

Lattice Model of an Ionic Liquid at an Electrified Interface

open access: yes, 2017
We study ionic liquids interacting with electrified interfaces. The ionic fluid is modeled as a Coulomb lattice gas. We compare the ionic density profiles calculated using a popular modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation with the explicit Monte Carlo ...

Copper‐Based Crystalline‐Metallic Glass Composite Thin Films: A Novel Material with Enhanced Strength and Thermally Stable Nanotwins

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...
