Transverse laxity of the forefoot
Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2022Splay of the forefoot reflects the loss of tension in the soft tissues and indicates failure of the biomechanics of the tie-bar system. By identifying and quantifying the soft tissue structures involved in the destruction of forefoot stability we could increase the understanding of forefoot pathologies. We investigated the transverse forefoot laxity on ...

Evaluation of injured-knee laxity is essential for treatment selection, clinical follow-up, and research. Interest in rotatory knee laxity increased with implementation of anatomic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. The pivot shift test represents a link between static testing with 1° of freedom and dynamic testing during functional activity ...

QUANTIFICATION OF JOINT LAXITY
Rheumatology, 1979We have compared the finger hyperextensometer (Jobbins et al., 1978) and the scoring system of Carter and Wilkinson (1964), modified by Beighton et al. (1973), in the quantification of joint laxity in a population selected to demonstrate a wide range of joint movement.

Joint laxity was measured clinically in 2,360 normal Chinese children aged 3-13 years with equal sex distribution using the Carter Wilkinson five tests and scoring system. Results showed minimal differences due to gender. The degree of joint laxity diminished with age.

An understanding of the anatomy and biomechanical features of the glenohumeral joint is necessary when understanding the concept of shoulder laxity. Glenohumeral laxity is a normal feature of shoulder motion, but only when that laxity becomes excessive does instability occur.

Laxity Testing of the Shoulder
The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2007Laxity testing is an important part of the examination of any joint. In the shoulder, it presents unique challenges because of the complexity of the interactions of the glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints. Many practitioners believe that laxity testing of the shoulder is difficult, and they are unclear about its role in evaluation of patients.

Quantification of wrist joint laxity
Gait & Posture, 2006Laxity may be a trigger for chronic unidentified wrist pain. To determine whether this is the case, first an objective method to quantify wrist laxity needs to be defined. This study investigates different quantification methods (reference tests) from the literature and compares these with the judgment of 2 independent experienced clinicians (index ...
