Joint Laxity and Proprioception in the Knee

The Physician and Sportsmedicine, 1983
In brief: Twelve members of a professional ballet company were evaluated for laxity of the knee joint. They also underwent a test of knee joint position sense. A group of 12 healthy, active, age-matched controls were similarly tested. All of the dancers met the criteria for loose joints, while only one of the control group had loose joints. In the test

JOINT LAXITY LEADING TO OSTEOARTHROSIS

Rheumatology, 1979
Joint laxity was compared in 50 females with symptomatic osteoarthrosis and an age-matched control group without osteoarthrosis. Generalized joint laxity measured by the scoring system of Cater and Wilkinson (1964) modified by Beighton (1973) was significantly higher in the osteoarthritic group (X2 = 10.00, P less than 0.05).

A new skin laxity scale for the buttocks: the Skin Laxity Visual Scale (SLVS)

European Journal of Dermatology, 2023
The Skin Laxity Severity Scale for the buttocks was previously developed to separately assess buttock ptosis, a scalloped appearance of the skin, infragluteal fold, localized fat on the lower third of the buttocks, and linear depressed lesions. A more objective, faster and shorter version of this scale, to be evaluated visually, would be more feasible ...

Atlantoaxial laxity in rheumatoid arthritis

Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1989
We found that 14 of 162 rheumatoid arthritis patients with chronic occipitocervical pain had anterior atlantoaxial instability in the absence of any corresponding radiographic changes in the joint cartilage or subchondral bone. Our findings suggest that ligamentous instability is a prerequisite for this type of change.

Knee Laxity in Symptomatic Osteoarthritis

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1994
Twenty-two patients with primary osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee were studied to determine the effects of OA on laxity of the knee joint. Laxity was measured with a Genucom Knee Analysis System. Ten knees had mild OA (> 50% preservation of joint space). Fifteen knees had moderate OA (some preservation of joint space, but < 50%).

Joint laxity and the risk of clubfoot

Birth Defects Research Part A: Clinical and Molecular Teratology, 2003
AbstractBACKGROUNDClubfoot is a relatively common and potentially disabling birth defect. The etiology of clubfoot (talipes equinovarus [TEV]) is not known. Joint laxity, or hypermobility, is a suspected risk factor for congenital hip dislocation and clubfoot.METHODSWe conducted a case‐control study of TEV in five western Washington counties.
