Layer-by-Layer Assembly of Free-Standing Nanofilms by Controlled Rolling

open access: yes, 2018
A water surface not only provides a habitat to many living organisms but also opens up new possibilities to develop state-of-the-art technologies. Here, we show a technology for the layer-by-layer assembly of free-standing nanofilms by controlled rolling.

Layer-by-Layer Assembled Nano-Composite Multilayer Gas Barrier Film Manufactured with Stretchable Substrate

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Most gas barrier films produce cracks that lead to a significant loss of gas barrier integrity when strain is applied. In order to fabricate stretchable gas barrier films with low water permeability and high endurance after stretching, we used ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Layer-by-Layer Manipulation of Heterogeneous Rectangular Nanoblocks: Brick Work for Multilayered Structures with Specific Heterojunction

open access: yes, 2018
The combination of heterogeneous inorganic nanocrystals provides novel nanometer-scale architectures for exploration of novel functions. In the present study, heterogeneous bilayers, such as BaTiO3-Fe3O4 and Mn3O4-CeO2, are fabricated via layer-by-layer ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Layer-by-layer generation of cluster states [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2012
Cluster states can be used to perform measurement-based quantum computation. The cluster state is a useful resource, because once it has been generated only local operations and measurements are needed to perform universal quantum computation. In this paper, we explore techniques for quickly and deterministically building a cluster state. In particular
